Having read and really enjoyed the first Mortal Engines book a few years ago; I was intrigued by this book that would tell the back-story of one of the minor characters. In Mortal Engines, Anna Fang is a well-known aviatrix and member of the Anti-Traction League. What we do not know is how she came to be this person. Night Flights gives us this insight into the childhood and journey that Anna takes from being a slave in a mighty traction city to becoming one of the world’s most fearsome pilots.

The post-apocalyptic world remains as vivid and full of interesting characters as previously, and you are drawn along for the ride at a great pace. A wonderful adventure to embark upon and get lost in. The end of the book is full of illustrations and gives an extra level of beauty to the book and the experience.
