Forest school

Elmhurst has introduced Forest School sessions within its existing curriculum! Forest School is an educational approach aiming to encourage and inspire children of all ages through positive outdoor experiences. Forest School promotes a holistic view of the world we live in through activities which engage children with nature. At Elmhurst, we are lucky enough to have Keyhole Copse, our very own ‘forest’, where children will spend their sessions.

There are of course safety considerations when we take children out of the classroom. Chief among these is the weather, and the best way of combatting this is by sending your child to school with warm (old!) clothing, a waterproof and non-restrictive coat, and either wellie boots or waterproof walking shoes. Gloves, scarf and hat can also be a good idea depending on the time of year! Lastly, please send your child with a healthy snack and water bottle: the children are very active during Forest School sessions, and need the refreshment!

All children get to experience Forest School during different seasons as they move from year group to year group. If you want some ideas about activities to do when out and about at weekends then the Woodland Trust,  have brilliant activity packs themed season by season. If you have any questions about Forest School at Elmhurst, or in general, please see Mrs Bulmer after school or email the office who will forward any queries on.
