Year 2 – Welcome to Elmhurst

UPDATE 24/6/20:

Keep an eye out in the post for the Y2/ 3 packs which are being sent home this week. Lots of information about the school plus individual codes to access Class Dojo.

Once you link to Dojo, you will be able to see the welcome video from Mike, Tracy, and the year 3 team. The class teachers will also add more to Dojo over the coming weeks so it is definitely worth linking with it if you can. Dojo can be accessed from a mobile.

Dojo will also mean that you can link directly with the class teacher and ask any questions etc.

Initial letter to parents:

Dear Year 2 parents and carers,

Usually, around this time of year, we would be starting to link with you regarding the transition to Elmhurst. We are so excited about welcoming you and your child. Unfortunately, though, these are not usual times and we cannot go ahead as we would normally do.

The Year 3 team, Mike and I have met to plan how we can help your child, and you, with the transition to Elmhurst. At this moment in time, there are still so many unknowns – we don’t know what is going to happen in September so our plans may change. We will keep you up to date as soon as we know more.

We are aiming on sending out much more information: activities, virtual tours, messages for the children, class dojo access etc., along with the usual parent pack information (such as information about uniform/ times of the school day etc.). This will be posted out to you on or before 26th June. Please make sure that Hindhayes has your up to date address. If you are new to the area, or not a member of the Hindhayes community, please let our school office have your up to date address.

We will also add more details and information to this page over the coming weeks, so keep checking in.

If, in the meantime, you do have any questions or concerns, please have a look at the website or contact the school office on office@elmhurst.somerset.sch.uk.

If you have a specific concern about a child who receives additional support at Hindhayes, please contact our SEND Co, Rachel Prime: rprime@ejsch.co.uk. She will be very happy to help.

It may also be worth it, if you are on Facebook, joining the Elmhurst Facebook page. This is a closed group for Elmhurst families. You can find it by searching for Tracy Edwards (picture of the school) and sending a friend request. I will ask you to confirm your child’s name and class. You can also ask an existing friend who is already a member to link you. This is a good way fo keeping in touch with other parents who know Elmhurst and who will also be willing to help answer any questions from a parent perspective.

We understand that this can be an anxious time for you. At the best of times, the transition to a different school can be hard but, in the current climate, it is even harder. We will do all that we can to help make things as smooth as possible for all involved.

We will get there, together.

Take care,
Tracy Edwards and Mike Lawrence
