Discover your community- Saturday 29th February

Don’t forget the Plastic Free Street campaign family awareness day on Saturday 29th February.

Michael Eavis has kindly agreed to open the event, and the idea is to bring together groups and organisations from our community to highlight the great work they do, as well as the public, young and old, to engender a sense of pride and aspiration.

Strode College will be there helping with refreshments and offering information on their full range of courses, and other stalls include Plastic Free Street & Fair Trade, WeHearYou, Neighbourhood Watch, YMCA Youth Club, Dementia Awareness, plus our local Community Connector lead, Fen Bagias. There will be live music, including a set from COSMiC and a free raffle with feelgood, locally inspired prizes. We’re also hoping Millfield students will be doing live roving reports for GFM on the day, Street Library will have children’s activities running with a free book and DVD tokens, and we’re hoping to display any fantastic ‘Plastic Free’ artworks we receive from our schools!

As a Parish Council, we have recently committed to working with and supporting initiatives that champion vulnerable families and young people, such as the local YMCA Youth Club and holiday breakfasts and activities, plus an ongoing initiative to keep the library open as a community partnership.
