Everdark is the prequel to Abi Elphinstone’s forthcoming Unmapped Chronicles trilogy and was written especially for World Book Day.  In Crackledawn, everyone is waiting for the phoenix to rise once again and renew the magical powers of the Unmapped Kingdoms. However, it is not the phoenix that rises that night, but an evil harpy determined to steal the magic for herself. A curious eleven-year-old girl called Smudge and an eccentric monkey called Bartholomew, avoid a dark curse and set off in pursuit. They must set sail and head beyond the legendary Northswirl to stop the harpy before it is too late.

The world created in Everdark is utterly magical; full of sea witches and silver whales, beautiful landscapes and terrifying whirlpools. This is a story full of adventure and magic and shows us how if we only have the belief in ourselves and our own ability, then there is nothing that we can not achieve.
