This is the fourth book in the Goth Girl series, but it does not matter if you have not read the previous books. Cleverly written and beautifully illustrated by the multi-award winning and former Children’s Laureate, Chris Riddell, this is about a young girl called Ada Goth who lives at Ghastly-Gorm Hall with her father, Lord Goth. Whilst Ada is home for the summer holidays, Lord Goth has decided to host a music festival, Gothstock, in the grounds of Ghastly-Gorm Hall. Meanwhile, Ada’s grandmother visits with the aim of finding Lord Goth a new wife! This book is perfect for adults and children to read together, as it is full of clever references to other books and popular culture which will keep everyone entertained. Look out for Shaun the Faun (who likes to sleep in wardrobes and seems to remember coming through one from some snowy woods) and a beautiful dress-maker called Tailor Extremely-Swift.
