Step 9: Additional home resources

Our aim at Elmhurst is to try to provide you with a variety of activities to do with your child/ children throughout this period. There is no obligation to do it all. Just do what you can. Everyone’s circumstance is different.

If you can do nothing else, read with your child daily, learn some of the key spelling words and learn times tables. Everything else will be a bonus. We don’t know how long we will find ourselves in this situation for so it is important to pace yourself.

Please remember that “homeschooling” and being in school is very different. An hour or two of intensive work at home will equate to a school day. Children (and parents) cannot sustain that level of intensity for prolonged periods of time. Switch off! Play games. Do gardening or baking. Watch a film mid-afternoon. Make a den and hide away in it. Go on a treasure hunt in the garden. Make mud pies and have a tea party. It is all about balance. Learning takes many forms. Now, more than ever, it is important to remember that.

In case, you are in need of additional activities, though, and you are struggling to access Google classrooms, here are some activities that may help.
