Something sinister is happening in the sleepy town of Crooked Oak. Ever since the fracking site closed down, some of the parents have been acting weird. They like to stay in the dark, they have stopped eating and their eyes are totally blank! Three school friends are determined to find out what is going on in their little town, but the closer they get to the truth, the scarier things become! This is a creepy and mysterious science fiction style story that is guaranteed to keep you reading until the end. Do you dare enter Crooked Oak?
The Invasion of Crooked Oak is a wonderful story for Year 4 children and above. Published by Barrington Stoke, who specialise in releasing stories for those who may not be as keen on reading or may have dyslexic tendencies, it is a shorter chapter book that can be enjoyed by all. As part of their mission to provide stories for all, Barrington Stoke’s books are published on a lightly tinted paper and in a unique dyslexia friendly font as well. The author, Dan Smith, is also a bit of a horror nerd and has hidden some horror film references in the story for grown-ups to find. He has told me that I managed to find five of them; there are more still to discover apparently!
